"Japanese colors" were born from the rich emotions of the Japanese people and have been passed down through the generations. They evoke a sense of warmth and familiarity, and have a deep, soothing flavor.
For our 45th anniversary project, we created denim using these "Japanese colors" indigo and madder. For the indigo warp threads, we used threads hand-dyed using the "Awa Shoai method," a traditional technique that Japan is proud of around the world.
With this technique, it is said that the original color of indigo appears after about 30 washes. With each wash, incompatible colors are washed away, and a deep color gradually emerges.

Meanwhile, the weft threads are dyed with the vegetable dye "madder." The history of madder dyeing in Japan is long, and there is a record that Himiko presented madder-dyed textiles as gifts, and during the time of Prince Shotoku, it was a color that only noble people were allowed to wear. During the Meiji era, the red of the "Hinomaru" flag adopted by the new government was also dyed with the vegetable dye "Akane". The deep indigo color of this "Awa Shoai method" and the madder color of the vegetable dye are interwoven to create a reddish indigo color. This is one of Japan's traditional colors known as "Niai", and has been used as clothing for aristocrats since the Heian period, and was a forbidden color for ordinary people.
Born from Japan's traditional colors, this "Hinode Awa Shoai Denim"
combines elegance and dignity, allowing you to fully enjoy the beautiful colors of Japan. These are jeans made of "Hinode Awa Shoai Denim". The thread used for dyeing is thicker than machine-dyed thread, and the denim fabric has a distinctive uneven texture that is completely different from regular 15oz denim.
Fabric thickness: 15oz
Silhouette: Regular straight
*A tenugui hand towel with a 45th anniversary design is included. *
