Type 160 Pleat Pocket Bags

Early 20th Century Oxford Bags were extremely wide trousers first made popular in

1920s at Oxford University, but later adopted by Ivy League students in the US. Type

160s play on Bags in combination with this season's exploration of pleating and cutting

across the grain of the fabric.

The legs are cut in one huge piece of fabric, with no side seams and no pockets, but the

side is pulled into a large backwards-facing pleat, and stitched into place to form a side

pocket. Below the pocket stitch the pleat is left to hang down to an extra wide hem.

Pleat Pocket Bags are made up with patch hip pockets, back darts, and a button fly. They

are sewn with all-cotton thread and finished with dyed cotton-covered metal buttons,

and a Made in USA blue label.

Cotton Blackout

This fabric is woven in USA from American cotton, as a base fabric for finishing into

blackout blinds. It is a midweight sateen weave, and the floated warp of this structure

gives it a softer, drapier texture than the same yarn in a standard twill weave. Originally

intended to be coated with plastic, this fabric takes dyes particularly well.

Flowerpot, Hadal Blue

Garment dyeing raw cotton garments accentuates the manufacturing processes, shrink-

ing the seams and bringing out latent texture from the yarn. As well as developing two

shades from natural logwood dye, clothes in this collection are offered direct dyed in

Flowerpot and Hadal Blue. Direct dyes lie over the top of the fabrics and sewing threads,

rather than reacting with the makeup of the fibres themselves, and give a slightly less uni-

form colour which shows up variations in texture and character of the garment.

Flowerpot has long been a Tender staple colour, and is the colour of terracotta, cooked

earth.

The hadal zone, named for the Greek underworld, Hades, is the deepest oceanic zone,

below the sunlight zone, the twilight zone, the midnight zone and the abyss.
